For all other Baptism candidates, please read and understand the notes below. We will also be sending you video links that you'll need to watch prior to your baptism.

UNDERSTANDING BAPTISM

WHAT IT'S NOT.
1. It’s not a false identification with the church.
2. It’s not a ritual or form that you go through to be part of the church.
3. It’s not to be taken lightly as some gimmick presentation; you can’t get a pat on the back for being spiritual.
4. It’s not a cure-all for the spiritual problems and tests that are ahead for each believer.
5. It’s not a new merit badge to be placed on your lapel.
6. It’s not an insurance for avoiding hell and getting into heaven.

WHAT THEN IS IT?
1. It is a command of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mark 16:15-16
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

2. It serves as an outward sign of an inward work.
It gives testimony of the change that has taken place within a person’s life. It is an act that follows salvation. It never precedes salvation.
Romans 6:3-4
Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Colossians 2:12
...having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

3. It is a humble declaration of the work of the Lord Jesus Christ in your life.
It is something that should be preceded by:
• Instruction - Matthew 28:19
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit...
• Repentance - Acts 2:38
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
• Faith - Acts 18:8
Crispus, the synagogue leader, and his entire household believed in the Lord; and many of the Corinthians who heard Paul believed and were baptized.

4. It is an outward submission to the continuing work of the Holy Spirit in your life,
Acts 9:18
Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized...
Acts 22:16
And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.

The Lord takes great delight in obedience. Let this be the first of many obedient steps as you follow Jesus.
